The Chief Prelate of Western Province, Sri Lanka Most Venerable Mangala Darma Keerthie Sri Wachissara Meewanapalane Sumedha Nayaka Thero, who is the chief incumbent of Meewanapalana - Gurugoda Sri Sunanadarama Maha Viharaya,
  • has celebrated his 60th birthday on August, 2013,
  • has completed 50 years of ordination,
  • has completed 40 years of higher ordination (Upasampada),
  • has completed 10 years of being appointed as the Chief Prelate of Western Province, Sri Lanka.
In appreciation of his great service to Buddhists and the country, and to invoke blessings, to wish him with all good health and happiness, junior monks and pupils with Dayaka (devotees) committee have conducted special ceremonies at the temple premises. There were,
  • Three Atawisi Bodhi Pooja ceremonies held on 08th, 09th, 10th August, 2013
  • Pirith chanting ceremony held on 10th August, 2013
  • Alms giving ceremony for more than two hundred Maha Sangha held on 11th August, 2013
  • Dewa Pooja ceremony held on 11th August, 2013
His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa has visited Sri Sunandarama Maha Viharaya on 11th August, 2013 to pay his respect to Ven Nayaka Thero.

New 'Atavisi Buddha Mandira'

The opening ceremony of new Atavisi Buddha Mandira at Sri Vachissara Dharmayathanaya, Gurugoda, held on 11th of March 2012, with participation of Malaysian devotees and Ven. Meewanapalane Sumedha Nayaka Thero. The 28 marble Buddha statues were brought here from Malaysia. Malaysian devotees who donated these statues to Sri Vachissara Dharmayathanaya, visited Sri Lanka and they were assisted to the temple by a perahera surrounded with Maha Sangha, number of traditional dancing groups, and elephants.

Annual Alms Giving

The Dayaka Sabawa of Sri Sunandarama Maha Viharaya organize an alms giving in February of every year in the memory of late nayaka thera.

Annual Pirith Chanting

There is a annual pirith ceremory at Sri Sunandarama Maha Viharaya at the end of each year.
